Figure 1. This is the pretty song of Tyrannus melancholicus. In spite of its scientific name, neither the species nor the song appear particularly melancholic. VIEILLOT was the scientist responsible for the name. As E.A. Choate writes: "... we can only infer that melancholicus indicates VIEILLOT'S disposition rather than the bird's." (Choate 1985).
