Male. This individual has some black on the upper back, and looks like fig. 12 (u) of the "color key to plumages of taxa in the Thamnophilus punctatus complex" in Isler et al. 1997, p. 368. The color pattern is compatible with both T. ambiguus and T. pelzelni.
