Family: Anatidae

Dendrocygna viduata;
White-faced Whistling-Duck;
Irerê.

During the rainy season, Whistling Ducks are breeding in the interior of Ceará, around lakes and reservoirs. At the lake of Fazenda Canaã, where hunting was forbidden, I have often seen flocks of 20-30 individuals. But in most areas, hunters shoot down whatever they can, and Whistling Ducks are now a rare sight.
