Family: Ardeidae

Butorides striatus;
Striated Heron;
Socozinho.

The Striated Heron can become very "tame" in urban parks. In Belém (Pará), for example, I have seen an individual which would not fly away even with people passing at 1-2 m distance. But in a natural environment, these birds are rather shy, and difficult to approach. I could take this photograph at close range (ca. 2 meters) only because the bird came to sit directly in front of my hide.
