Family: Emberizidae
Subfamily: Emberizinae

Arremon taciturnus;
Pectoral Sparrow;
Tico-tico-do-mato-de-bico-preto.

The individual on the photo is a male, as shown by the black pectoral band.

The Pectoral Sparrow is quite common in the low mountain range of Res. Ecol. Mãe-da-Lua, where the vegetation is better preserved than in the lowland areas. I have not seen this species in Fazenda Canaã.
