Figure 1. This vocalization was recorded in a playback experiment early in the morning. At least in the Reserve, and at this time of the year, it is probably the most commonly heard song of the Little Wood-Rail.

An interesting characteristic of this song is that the syllable changes in the middle of the song, from two elements, to one continuous downsweep. This is depicted in more detail in fig. 2.

Figure 2. Details of section "A" from fig. 1. The spectrogram shows a change in the signal between "s1" and "s2" (red labels in figure): two discontinuous pips (up to "s1") merge into a single frequency down-sweep (from "s2" onwards). I noted this syllable change in many songs already.
